Another Ignorant Opinion!
So who out there pissed Pat off? Nice job who ever it was and lets all plan some large group rides to Rockwell. Perhaps we could even ride by Pats place...
Get Out and Ride and Get out and Call your State Rep's to ensure the Bikers Bill of Rights Passes and Gets Enforced.
Globe Gazette Opinion:
Bikers, use common sense
By PAT WEYDERT, Rockwell
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have a problem with bicycle riders. I do, however, have a problem with the laws protecting them on the roadways.
They pay no license fees, gas taxes or insurance to operate their bikes, but yet feel that they should have the same rights.
OK, great. If you’re on the highway and cars are coming at you in both directions, have the common sense to get off the road. I’m sorry, if I come over a hill and you’re at the bottom of that hill and another car is coming the other way, you lose. It’s not rocket science. If you want the same rules of the road to protect you, then you need to follow those rules, too.
I’ve heard the excuse, “I don’t have the right tires for riding in the gravel.” Then I suggest you stay off the roads or buy a bicycle with the proper tires.
Our tax dollars have built many nice bike trails for you; use them. Have some common sense, and stop trying to “legislate” yourself safe. Take on some of that responsibility yourself.
If you don’t want to be hit in an intersection, do what you were taught in school: Stop, look both ways, then cross if safe to do so. Use your hand signals so the cars know what you are going to do.
And for heaven’s sake, if you do chose to ride on the roadways, realize that the cars are watching for you but you have to watch for us, too.
We can’t stop that fast at highway speeds. It’s much easier and safer for you to get out of the way.
REALLY?
