Indoor cycling will start on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 6:30PM.
Thanks to the generous offer of George Jessen, classes will be held at 2599 South Federal, part of the Heartland Asphalt building. We will be using the space on the north side of the building being vacated by North Iowa Millwork. Parking is available between that location and Hewitt Wholesale.
Our indoor classes are for cyclists of all interests and abilities. When you are riding on a trainer, you can’t get dropped! Only one person has fallen off his bike in the last six years, and that was because his seat post broke after 25 years. You can make the workout as hard or as leisurely as you wish. Our space will be about 20x40 feet with good acoustics and restroom accessibility. The area is carpeted, so any rider who is likely to drip sweat on the floor is encouraged to bring a mat or rug (sounds like kindergarten) to place under his/her bike.
Our schedule will remain the same - Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6:30 PM and Saturday morning at 8:30 AM. In the past, there was interest in starting at 6:00 PM. We can readdress that issue if there is interest once we get started.
The funds that we generate with our classes allow SPIN to donate to organizations that promote many types of silent sports in order to encourage active, healthy, and fun lifestyles for the people of northern Iowa. In the past, SPIN has donated money to Cerro Gordo Recreational Trails ($3,000 recently to develop more of the bike trail around Clear Lake), North Iowa Nordic ($1,350 recently to purchase another track setter to be used at Lime Creek Nature Center and Pilot Knob), and JDRF. In addition, each year at Christmas time the participants in indoor cycling have sponsored a family through one of the local agencies, giving them clothes, food, and grocery store cash cards. Check the SPIN blog at www.northiowaspin.blogspot.com.
All participants will need to renew their North Iowa Touring Club membership for 2012; current memberships expire 12/31/11. Membership in North Iowa SPIN is optional (Click for Form), but carries some benefits for those interested in racing – cycling, triathlon, cyclocross, and running. If you compete in three or more races wearing SPIN/MC2 gear, you are eligible once a year for $100 entry fee reimbursement and $50 discount on clothing orders.

If you're riding on a 10-punch card or a single session pass, there is a room adjacent to ours where bikes can be stored when not in use.
As always, we are always looking for people to volunteer to lead class. Please contact me at sschurtz3@mchsi.com if you would like to try leading a class or if you have any questions about indoor cycling.
See you on November 1! We will be present by 5:45 PM on the first night to start the registration process.
